Air date: 9/7/2006
Fighters recap the Spratt vs. Lytle fight. They acknowledge that Chris Lytle was fast and effective. Matt Serra points out that being in control of the fight picks allows them to make the match ups that benefit them and it’s working. Patrick Cote feels like he’s in great shape right now and is ready to fight next.
Back at the house, Team No Love is spinning their wheels as to who will be called out next. They’re pretty sure it’ll be Cote from Mojo and possibly Travis from No Love. Charles, as usual, is on his way to convincing himself that he’ll be next. Chris Lytle thinks that if Team Mojo wins again, Team No Love’s ship will start sinking.
While in the kitchen, Travis Lutter trash talks Pete Sell. Given that Travis normally doesn’t say much, Pete’s offended, not sure how to take Travis saying,
“c’mon bitch.”
Scott Smith checks out a suspicious rash on his underarm. He walks out to the Jacuzzi to show it to his team. Pete Sell shows everyone that he also has a suspicious bump on his toe. Matt Serra suggests they get it looked at as soon as possible. Scott and Pete head to the emergency room to have their unknown infections examined.
Team Mojo arrives at the gym. Matt expresses concern about the cleanliness of the mats. It turns out that both Scott and Pete have Staph, a highly contagious skin infection.
Randy explains that mat sports in general are a breeding ground for things such as Staph and Ringworm. Dana believes that someone must have shown up to the competition already infected with Staph and all they can do now is to try and contain the outbreak.
Team Mojo returns to the house. Matt has a talk with Pete about his incident with Travis. Pete says he wants to fight Travis now. Matt explains that has known Pete since Pete was 17 years old, and he knows Pete tends to take things too personally. He knows that even though Pete wants to fight Travis that Charles McCarthy would be a much better fight, match-up wise. He reminds Pete that at this stage of the competition, it’s all about getting to the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Jackson is sharing some personal details of his life with Din Thomas. Apparently, Jeremy has been sleeping in the trunk of his car for the past six months. Two years ago, he lost his 24 year-old brother. His says his life has been like a roller coaster. Every time he gets things back on track, life hits him hard again and he’s back at the bottom. Most of his recent problems have been because of women.
He has a history of getting thrown out onto the street by the various women he has gotten involved with. He explains that he wants to win enough money on this show so that he can buy a house from which he cannot get ejected.
Trainer Georges St. Pierre takes Team No Love to the YMCA for a change of pace. Jeremy explains that he started talking to one of the female lifeguards. Before leaving, he was able to slip her a map to the house and got her to agree to meet him there at midnight.
Later that evening, Jeremy and the other fighters are sitting around the fire-pit in the backyard. Jeremy remarks that normally no one sits outside, but on this night, everyone is at the fire-pit. As midnight approaches, Jeremy waits for all the guys to call it a night and go inside. As the guys finally head inside, he pretends to go off to the bushes to take a leak. That’s when he gets away with his escape plan, jumping over the yard wall.
The next morning, the guys get a call that training has been cancelled and Dana is on his way over to the house. Matt Serra asks Jeremy what’s going on. Little by little the truth is revealed about Jeremy’s rendezvous with the lifeguard from the YMCA. Dana arrives at the house. As the fighters gather, Dana reminds them what a huge opportunity this show is for all of them. He then looks at Jeremy and tells him to pack his bags and go home. Jeremy is visibly shocked and disappointed.
As Jeremy packs his bags, he says that he hopes Dana can forgive him for this indiscretion. He realizes he screwed up an incredible opportunity – most of all, the opportunity to make some real money that he so badly needs. Jorge wonders where Jeremy is going to now, given that he was previously living in the trunk of his car. As Jeremy leaves the house, he turns around for one last look at all he’s leaving behind. He says that he has cried so much in his life that he has no more tears left to cry. After Jeremy’s departure, everyone expresses shock at Jeremy’s lack of good judgment and what a mistake it was to give up such a tremendous opportunity.
The Staph infection has now spread to quite a few of the guys in the house. Pete Sell, Scott Smith and Din Thomas all have Staph. Matt is concerned about it because Patrick Cote is showing some of the early signs of the infection and the next middleweight match up is shaping up to be Patrick vs. Travis.
At the fight announcement, Scott Smith announces that he will be fighting Travis Lutter. Both Patrick Cote and Pete Sell are out with Staph infections. Scott is finally getting over his infection and is ready to fight. Travis is surprised that he’s been called out by Scott, given that he has such a strong ground game and that’s exactly where Scott weakness is.
Travis hits the gym to prepare. He explains that he grew up on a farm in South Dakota. He tells us it was Royce Gracie that got him into fighting. He watched his first UFC in 1993 and decided right then and there that he must learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is now a black belt in Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is a world-class grappler. His UFC record is one win, two losses. He first fought at UFC 50 against Marvin Eastman in a surprising fight where he knocked Eastman out with a solid punch. His second fight was at UFC 52 against Matt Lindland where Travis got caught in a guillotine choke. Travis explains that this was the one and only time he has ever been submitted. His next shot was at UFC 54, against training partner Trevor Prangley. It was another disappointing performance by Travis, and Trevor won by unanimous decision. Dana thinks Travis could be the dark horse in this competition and Travis is looking forward to showing off his skills in the octagon.
Scott Smith has a stinky butt. His teammates explain that he can’t control his farting and that it can happen anytime or anyplace. As Scott trains, we learn about his fighting career. He works as an ironworker to supplement his fighting income and to pay the bills. He’s a ground and pound fighter but recently began working on his stand up which led to four knockouts in a row. The other fighters in the house think he’s more of a stand up guy, which he thinks will work in his favor. Scott’s one fight in the UFC was at UFC 59 against David Terrell. During the fight, something bizarre happened. Scott had Terrell up against the fence when the referee called “break” and Scott let up, but Terrell kept going and jumped on Scott’s back. The referee never said anything and Scott got choked out. Dana thinks it was an unfair way to lose and that Scott deserves another shot. Scott says this is a unique opportunity in that you get to fight three guys and then get a shot at the title. Scott believes that he is only “three punches away” from winning this whole competition.
It’s fight day. As Travis prepares for the fight, he explains that he plans to take Scott down and do his thing. Scott says that he plans to stuff Travis’ takedowns and win the fight by knocking him out.
Round one. Travis fakes a punch and gets behind Scott. Scott tries to stuff his takedown but fails. Travis shows off his Jiu Jitsu skills as he takes Scott’s back and gives him a light pounding, before choking him out.
During the recap of the fight, Scott explains that once Travis got behind him, he knew he was in trouble. Scott is disappointed that he didn’t get to show everyone what he’s really capable of. He knows that he’s got a long way to go now to prove that he belongs in the UFC. Travis hopes this fight will put fear in the next fighter to get into the octagon with him. Travis’s win also means that Team No Love is finally in control again.
