#6 - Marcus Davis defeats Shonie Carter by Decision (Unanimous)

Round 1 - They start with feeling each out a bit then go into the clinch. Shonie pushes out of the clinch and they continue to circle. They clinch and Marcus goes for a take down and lands in the mount. He starts to drop punches, Shonie rolls, Marcus takes his back, gets him in a body triangle, and goes for the rear naked choke. Shonie stays calm and defends effectively. Marcus maintains the body triangle for about another minute, but is unable to finish. At 1:25 Shonie reverses him and is in Marcus' guard. Shonie lands a few elbows, but the round will probably go to Marcus.

Round 2 - Marcus is effectively using his right jab landing it repeatedly throughout the round and visibly rocking Shonie several times. About half way through the round Shonie is starting to look gassed and his technique is getting sloppy, but he still lands a few good leg kicks. Shonie dropped Marcus late in the round with a leg kick, but Marcus scrambles up. With just a few seconds left in the round, Shonie gets hit with a groin kick.

Round 3 - Shonie looks refreshed in this round. Marcus continues to land his jab. Shonie's does a good job of circling and landing his leg kicks but his punches look a little wild. He may be going for the big knockout punch. It was a lackluster round that could go either way.

#7 - Karo Parisyan defeats Drew Fickett by Decision (Unanimous)

Round 1 - Drew starts with some kicks and one hits Karo in the groin. Drew goes for a knee and Karo takes him down, lands a couple punches and Drew manages to scramble up. Exchange and land a few punches. Karo's boxing has gotten more accurate, and is repeatedly going for the big overhand right, but not landing. Drew is jumping inside with punch combinations, but Karo is landing just as many as Drew. It's becoming obvious that Karo is getting the better of the standup, and towards the end of the round, Drew starts going for takedowns (unsuccessfully)

Round 2 - Beginning of rd, Karo takes Drew down and is in Drew's guard. Karo has him stuffed up against the cage. Drew lands a good elbow from the bottom and cuts Karo. One of Karo's elbows cuts Drew soon after. Karo achieves half guard, and the fight is stopped to check the cuts. Karo's cut is under his eye but is a bad gash. Doctor says the fight can continue. Karo gets side control but Drew squirms out of it. Karo lands a big right hand, but didn't seem to hurt Drew. Karo continues to throw elbows, and Drew is scrambling for position. Drew manages to get back to his feet, and then goes for the double leg and takes Karo down. Now it's Karo's turn to eat some elbows. Man what a couple of warriors. This round rocked!

Round 3 - Both of these warriors must be have great cardio cause neither one of them look tired. By now Karo's white shorts are red with blood. Drew goes for some sort of leg sub, but Karo gets out of it and ends up on top, but Drew scrambles up again. They are exchanging kicks, punches, and knees with no definitive advantage to either fighter. Karo throws Drew down, but then lets him back up. Towards the end of the round Drew is starting to look tired, and Karo lands a couple clean punches to the face. Karo takes Drew down, but Drew gives up his back and stands back up again. For the last seconds of the round they both swing for the fences. Wow, another great round.

#8 - Josh Koscheck defeats Jeff Joslin by Decision (Unanimous)

Round 1 - First minute they circle. Kos easily takes Jeff down at about 3:30, Jeff maintains a butterfly guard and does a good job of keeping Kos from getting stable or inflicting much punishment. Kos gets frustrated and lets Jeff up, but right away Jeff lands a good punch that knocks Kos back a couple steps. Kos decides to take him down again. Jeff continues to a good job of protecting himself and the ref cautions them. Kos drags Jeff to the cage, but is still not able to inflict much damage.

Round 2 - Jeff lands a couple good inside leg kicks in the first minute. They are mostly circling and occasionally landing a punch here and there. Jeff standup is looking more effective. Half way into the round, Kos takes Jeff down. Kos has him up against the cage, but Jeff is controlling him and nothing much is landing. Herb Dean stands them up at about 1:30. Kos almost immediately takes Jeff down again. Kos' wrestling is phenomenal. At the end of the round Jeff gets Kos in a triangle choke, but runs out of time.

Round 3 - The first minute of the round is again exchanging kicks. Jeff goes for a nice spinning back fist that doesn't land, but then lands a good right. Kos takes Jeff down again and almost gets side control, but Jeff's BJJ comes through and he manages to get Kos in his butterfly guard again. Jeff scrambles to get up, gets caught briefly in a choke and then Kos has him back down again. Herb stands them up again at 1:07. Within 15 seconds, Kos takes him down AGAIN, but still doesn't manage to do much damage. This is more a reflection of Jeff's skill at protecting himself than Kos' inability to do the job. I believe a lesser fighter would have been finished by ground n pound in the first round.

#9 - Diego Sanchez defeats Joe Riggs by KO in round 1at 1:45

Round 1 - Yikes, it begins!!! They are both lookin really intense. Diego throws a couple and goes for a takedown that Joe stuffs. More circling....Joe lands a good body shot. Soon after Diego lands a right hook on the jaw and knocks Joe down. Diego immediately goes in for the kill while Joe tries to scramble to his feet. Before Joe gets all the way up Diego is there and lands a knee to Joe's face that knocked him out. Diego took his back and started furiously throwing rights to Joe's head. The round was soon stopped. Folks that's what you call walking right through someone.

I wonder what Riggs is going to do now? Tough loss for him. I believe Sanchez is up for a title shot after TUF and Hughes.

It doesn't look good for Joe. If he had a good showing in this fight, he may have been alright, but Diego took him out pretty quick.

I agree, Sanchez has earned the next shot after the other commitments are finished. Not sure what they are going to do with him in the meantime. I don't think he wants to sit around for at least 6 months.

It makes sense for Sanchez and Hughes to fight, and the winner faces GSP. I don't believe a rematch with Hughes should be automatic given the fact that Matt was clearly beaten and even dominated in his loss to GSP. He should have to earn a title shot like everyone else.

It's been announced that Hughes is getting his rematch in April in that interview Dana did yesterday. I agree that a Diego vs Hughes fight may have been one way to go, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. Maybe this is how the UFC is going to drag out the drama.
