View Full Version : Feedback for Fighter Information

I want to get some feedback from you guys before I do any more Fighter Information threads. I don't know if when you are looking at a fighters info, you are usually just looking for his record. I still have to add a picture and some additional info, but this one is almost done.

Would you prefer the format of post #2 or post #3?

Post #2 - Fighter record is placed after biography information. (downside = if just want record, it's a pain to scroll past the bio)

Post #3 - Fighter record is placed before biography information. (downside = not seeing that there is xtra info below record)

Please add to this thread anything else you do or don't like. For example do you want the record double-spaced to make it easier to read?

Let's hear it, I wouldn't ask if I didn't want to know.

Of the two you show I would prefer the one with the bio first and the record after. One thing though "That was just a rough draft right?" Will you be makeing the record part a little easier to read?

Thats my only helpfull tip ;) GJ though. thanks :D

i like the 1st one but the bio seems abit long winded but its a great start tho

I also like the first one. I would shorten the bio a little. And maybe "color" the win/losses in his record.

Easye you've hit on the part that bugs me. I'm not sure HOW to make it easier to read. If you put too many spaces in between then you end up making the record two lines long which makes it HARD to read and longer to scroll through.

How about instead of the // insert comma + space? Would that make it easier for most people?

Thanks for the criticism. I will shorten up the bio for Mirko and keep the others shorter too.

I will also use the idea of changing the color. How about if I just change the color of whatever they have least of. Mirko for example I would make just his losses, red.

I like the idea of losses in red...that will help make things read faster too. I am not sure of a really good/easy way to make it all fit onto one line. What if you made it into a pic? And then imbed it into the test. That way it can be way prettier then way the forum post will allow you to make? I dont want you to feel like you have to work so way hard hard at this...But I know I agree with you 100% when we say "It's hard to follow, now." :(

Are you trying to make a bio for every fighter ever? in each sport? I would say I could help you with making the records into pics...but unlike most people I work where there is no PC. So sadly i must work while at work...while others can do cool stuff like this, instead of working :p

See that's exactly why I need the feedback because I'm just the opposite. 1. fast reader 2. long attention span. It would be different if I was just making it for my own reference, but it's supposed to be for everyone else.

This gives me the idea of doing this on MS Excel. A table would be a lot easier and faster. I didn't see Excel listed as one of the options for attachments. I could either put it in Excel and then copy it into MS Word or PDF and then attach that? I'd have to try it cause I don't know how it would end up looking.

I dont want you to feel like you have to work so way hard hard at this...
1. I'm doing it cause I want to and I like that I am learning a lot about each fighter.

2. I know myself very well, and if I don't tweek this till I like it, it will drive me nuts later. It's better for me to jack with it in the beginning rather than later trying to change ones I've already written into another format when I DO get it the way I want it.

Are you trying to make a bio for every fighter ever? in each sport?

No I'm not quite that ambitious. I am going to make ones of the most popular MMA fighters in each weight class. After I've got that done, I'll just add when new popular fighters come up or if there is a request for a new one.

I'm starting with the heavyweights. I've also got one finished on Fedor. These are the others I have planned: Barnett, Nogueira, Sylvia, Arlovski, Aleks Emelianenko, Mark Hunt, and Brandon Vera.

I prefer post #3. Bc most of the time when I look up a fighter I just want to check something out about their record. Now as Boo pointed out the downside to that format is someone may not notice the bio below. Therefore, my suggestion is simply put a little note somewhere up top pointing out the bio below the fight record.

Easye, I put the record into Excel and then copied that into a Word doc, but then the Word doc was too large to upload. I haven't tried saving it as a PDF yet because I don't have the software at home to do that.

Do you think that sometime next week you would have the time to talk me through making it into a picture? I'm pretty much at a standstill until I get this part figured out. I get home during the week at about 6 or 7 ET. I would also have time Sunday night, but not during 60 minutes :D Let me know, thanks.

I voted for the record before the bio but I could live with either one. They're both well done.

Thanks for doing this, Boo! They will be a huge help to the forum.

I'm thinking about scrapping the bio and just having a few interesting extra comments under the main stats about a fighter.

I already have listed a link for more information. That would take someone straight to biography information. If there are multiple good sources, I'll just list multiple links. It sure would be a lot easier too.

What do you guys think of that idea?

I think the #3 post is better because most of the time people just want to know who a fighter lost to or beat and not read their life story.

I would make it so the Bio was just the major and important issues of the fighter and the history of the individual. The Win/Lose is best color coded and then bold them, it helps them to stand out. So far some great feedback and great ideas. Keep up the great work and comments.

I've made the changes you all suggested. I've got a few more things to tweak and I'll then I'll be cranking out the finished product into the fighter section.

Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it.

:You_Rock_Emoticon: A special thanks to Easye1982 for the suggestion of making the record into a picture. Despite spending the last three days :wits end: trying to get it right, that ended up being key.
