So I just made a post in another section and I used the word H-E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS and it censored it as ****. WTH????

Isnt that worse than the word itself....it may look like I actually said shoot!! or fudge!!

What words are censored...is there a list ? :noidea:

all "curse" words are filtered as this is a family oriented site and I want everyone to be safe here no matter what the age etc.

Instead of using the language try heck shoot or fudge as you already said.

I get what you guys are doing, but the thing is MMA isn't really a family oriented sport. I don't see many families attending events when I go.

Note taken, but there are many different age ranges on here and we try to keep it clean so that it can stay that way and present a good forum without unneeded language and topics. It sets a good foundation for the younger generation as well as the rest whom are tapping into MMA and forums trying to learn about the sport and many great things it involves.

I agree. I think it's good to get kids into it. Hopefully the UFC fighters will cut out all the cussing in their post fight interviews. Here alot of f bombs and such flying in those. It's not good for the family aspect.

Totally agree. That is why we try to show the better side and handle things the way we do here.

couldn't agree more. I have gotten my 17 year old into and he has friends that are starting to check out forums. I only want to send them to places their parents won't come back to me about.

Although I will say that the h-word isn't that bad.

As far as MMA not being a family oriented sport i couldn't disagree more. The reason you don't see families at events is more likely because the tickets are so friggin expensive. I am considering taking our kid to 68 but the price of the tickets particularly if we decide to get floor seats makes it a tough choice.

We all get together in my house for the fights from my 12 year old daughter and her friends to my 17YO son and his friends.

All depends on how the sport is presented to children and them understanding the competition aspect and technical skill involved vs just two guys beating on each other.

My boy is 3 1/2 and already into BJJ and MMA, my youngest 9 months I hope will be the same ;)

no worries this site is safe for all Mastiff....and if it ever gets out of hand we will do house cleaning, banning and make it a invite only forum - if you dont get invited you dont get in...that is the "if" plan ;)

sounds like a great plan. I wish my kids would get more into training. I actually signed my whole family up for BJJ/ kung foo classes. My wife thought it was too physical and didn't like the 17yo just kind of became disinterested (too much work) and was playing football and weight training after school and I got tired of paying 250 bones a month for just me to go. that was a full year commitment. Now I just a monthly membership for myself.

By the way this is a great clean site. You guys have done an awesome job!

Hey Mast, how's it goin'? I only ever attended one live event and that was UFC 30 in 2001 in Atlantic City. Me and my buddies had a blast and I met several fighters. Based on that one experience, I don't think I would be comfortable taking my teenager to a live event. It was a rough crowd. It felt like everywhere I walked in the arena a fight was ripe to break out - that all it would take is the wrong type of look at someone or someone's girlfriend. There was in fact a fight or two that broke out in the stands. There was a lot of testosterone and adult beverages flowing. This was the first Zuffa-owned event and it was a long time ago. I know that there are posters here who have been to many more live events since then and I was wondering if the atmosphere is the same at big shows AND the small local shows these days. Anyone?

Thanks for the heads up Duran. Not sure if I want my kid in that kind of environment. I would think that they have cleaned it up a little but it is like any other sporting event you get a bunch of guys throwing back alcohol and watching an emotionally charged event and guys that want to prove they are just as tough as the fighters and that has some bad joo-joo written all over it.

I just know how disappointed he looked when we told him we were going and he wasn't. Actually disappointed is not even the word for it. He was flat devastated. that is what got us thinking maybe we take him with.

How was the show aside from that?

The show was a great experience. I made a post on a much earlier date here that me and my buddies actually walked into the press conference without being challenged. I would not hesitate to go again. The situation I described did not make me feel uncomfortable, but I think you can sense what I mean. Guys - grownups - walking around in shirts touting their particular martial art and their gym - I perceived it as guys walking around with chips on their shoulders. I hope it has changed now. I have been to a lot of live boxing shows and it is not as bad there. I am curious to see what the atmosphere is like at a local show. Striking in MMA is not allowed in PA, so I don't have the opportunity to see the small promotions.

guess i'm one of the only ones here that thinks a language filter isn't necessary. i'm in the minority, go figure! there should at least be an option in the user cp to turn it on/off for your viewing.

That argument can be used for any aspect of civilization or morality.

Example: making women wear burkas and allowing gangs of "enforcers" beat them in public for any exposed body part (ankle) is also societal.

Example: cannabalism, nuff said
