I have also had some knee injuries. Nothing major like I'm sure Brvheart has had but can share a little.
First off I don't know what kind of insurance you have but it would be a good idea to get an MRI. They can take much cleaner pictures and identify soft tissue injuries. Whenever you hear about a football player tearing his MCL they identify that injury by MRI. If it is really hurting that bad you should get it checked out.

ok, here is what needs to be done to be sure what happened....MRI that will tell you what exactly happened, how bad it is and if it will heal. 9/10 it wont.
I torn my knee up (torn Cartilage etc) but it got worse and worse until it ripped and I had to have surgery. It got tot he point that my knee was giving out as I would try to walk and BAM I would hit the ground. Knee injuries are not one to play with or take lightly. It is always better to be safe then sorry when it comes to knees (Like alot of injuries). Mine had more damage then that, but moral of the story is go get it checked. Also when working out etc wrap it up really good and get a neoprene brace for it. Also ice it after. A good thing to do is Ice for 15 minutes then use heat for 15 minutes, this will promote blood flow which will help heal the injury.

Both Mastif_owner and brvHeart are right about the MRI. An xray won't show you anything. I blew my knee out in Basic Training. It swelled and locked up. Basic was a nightmare but eventually it got better. then it would tear apart again. It got to the point where I couldn't move or sleep without extreme discomfort. I was lucky though. The Military took care of my knee and chopped out the bad section that kept tearing. the inside of my knee looked like a lawnmower had hit it before the surgery even began. After the surgery my knee eventually returned to normal and i got back into running and weight lifting. A syst developed in the cartilages place but as long as i stay hydrated, avoid sugar, and keep up the weight training on my knee if feels fine. Mine was a miniscus tear- I don't know what yours was but that was my issue.

I'm having a similar problem right now actually. After my first BJJ session my left knee (inside) was pretty sore. I went to the doctor for another issue and mentioned my knee and he took a look at it but said it was probably just a MCL sprain so I shrugged it off.
It is not sore any more, but it still catches and hurts very badly when it does. I'll just be walking and I'll move or pivot a certain way and pain shoots up my whole body. Also, it hurts when I'm laying in bed sometimes and try to manuever a certain way and I'll get some pain.
Its not as bad as it was, but its still happening consistently and its been about a month.... any advice or should I just wait and see?

Glucosamine is a good supplement it helps with joint pains and loose cartilage by regrowing it :)
