The line up is looking good...minus Akebono. I think the final 2 will be Shaolin and JZ. Hopefully Shaolin takes this.

Yeah those are my 2 favorites to win as well. I'd give Shaolin the edge because of his experience fighting more top LW than JZ, but JZ definitely has the skill and potential to do what it takes. Another thing is "Pequeno" was originally announced as a tourney participant, now he is listed as a non-tourney participant. Kind of bummed by that. He's a solid fighter, but he always seems to avoid super tough match-ups. Always seems to come up with some kind of injury or something.

Yeah, Nogueira is a tough fighter, but I wish he could face bigger challenges as well.

Should be sweet, it seems like shaolin's tournament for the taking but JZ could give him a world of trouble. Id also like to see Nagata do well

I think Uno's taking this fight. I wouldn't at all be suprised if JZ took this, but I think Shaolin will win. And isn't this a Light Weight Grand Prix.

Unless they all put on 25 pounds then it should be at lightweight
btw Black Mamba is a HUGE lightweight

Well, he should have a big weight advantage then. I hope Tokoro does well...

In K1 HERO'S MW=LW, LHW=MW. Don't ask me why, that's just how it is. Kinda like PRIDE MW=LHW, WW=MW.

Poor K1, treated like a red headed step child (no offense Boo)
It actually is looking pretty good. Can't wait.
Anyway, who is Ralek Gracie? I hear they think he's the next big thing.

He's one of Rorion Gracie's sons. He's 21 and is a trainer at the Gracie Academy in Torrance. I believe he is a brown belt, unless he's been promoted lately. He'll be making his MMA debut. Also there is video of a backyard fight from when he is 15, fighting a 17 year old kickboxer floating around the internet. I'll see if I can track it down.
Comin' up soon. I just added it to the Calendar too.

Sweet, thanks Boo. I'll try to post the fights as soon as they come available. I'm really looking forward to this event. It's the day before my b-day.

I sticked this and another K-1 event. Do you have any objections to me editing your first post with updates or should we leave these as they are?

Nagata vs Caol Uno is a great first matchup, all the rest are somewhat predictable but you never know for sure

- "JZ" INJURED AND OFF HERO'S CARD
Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - by MMAWeekly.com
Sources have confirmed to MMAWeekly that defending K-1 Hero’s Grand Prix Champion Gesias "JZ" Calvancanti has pulled out of his fight against Andre Dida due to an undisclosed injury.
Undefeated CageForce and Pancrase veteran Artur Oumakhanov is expected to replace “JZ." The SK Absolute Russia fighter is coming off of a decision victory over Wataru Miki. It is not known at this time if Calvancanti will receive a bye into the next round of the 155-pound tournament.
07/16 K-1 Hero’s 9 Card So Far:
Tournament Matches:
Caol Uno vs Katsuhiko Nagata
Kazuyuki Miyata vs Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro
Hideo Tokoro vs Kultar Gill
Artur Oumakhanov vs Andre Dida
Super Fights:
Alexandre Franca "Pequeno" Nogueira vs Shuichiro Katsumura
Katsuyori Shibata vs Ralek Gracie
Dong Sik Yoon vs Bernard Ackah
Kiyoshi Tamura vs Taiei Kin
Melvin Manhoef vs TBA
This sucks, now it makes 2 of HERO'S top LW out of the tourney, and 3 if you count Genki. It looks like it's Shaolin's GP to lose. JZ was the only one that I could see beating him.
Also, I believe that Alistair Overeem will be fighting on this card as well. thefightnetwork.com reported that he was flying out to Japan for the event, but didn't yet know who his opponent was.

Dong Sik Yoon is out with an injury, so Ackah will take on Mahoef. I like that match up better because it gives Manhoef an opponent and it will probably be an exciting striking match with Manhoef winning by KO/TKO.
Also, I hope they find Overeem a suitable opponent. It would have been nice if Sokoudjou could of made it.

It looks like they will only be having 3 Tourney matches since JZ can't participate. Dida's match is now a non-tourney match. Also, I guess they couldn't find Alistair Overeem an opponent, because he's still absent from the card.

This explains why Overeem isn't on the final card:

OVEREEM MISSES K-1 DEBUT
He traveled from his homeland to Japan last Tuesday like all the others, but dashing Dutchman Alistair Overeem (25-10) will not be taking the stage this evening for his K-1 HERO’S debut. Overeem informed FIGHT NETWORK RADIO host Mauro Ranallo this morning that fellow countryman Melvin Manhoef turned down a bout with the 6-foot-4 “Demolition Man,” and promoters could not secure a new opponent in time. (Manhoef could not be reached for comment.) Manhoef (16-4-1) will face the Ivory Coast’s and Japanese TV personality Bernard Ackah (2-0) this evening, while Overeem guarantees he’ll be back in action on K-1’s September card.
