I had an issue with an enlared stomach a few months ago. No matter how much I worked out I couldn't get my stomach down to a good size. So I went to the VA- never go to the VA unless you just want some asprin and have time to waist. the doctor did the regular tests- then told me I was getting old and that I needed to exercise. I wanted to kick his teeth in. Later that week I heard an ad on the radio for Fiber Tablets- i though hey- why not. So I went and got some. they helped... my stomach returned to it normal size in just two weeks. this is the power of fiber. the key to fiber for me is to take it in the morning, get lots of water all day long, and not eat before bed. that was it. here are the tables i got.

Are they chewables or the horse choking swallowable kind? And do they leave a nasty taste in your mouth, from dissolving as soon as they hit your tongue?

No- they actually taste great. And yes they are chewable. There are assorted fruit flavored and mixed berry flavored. The mixed berry is the best and they can be found at Walgreens.

jegray - funny you should start this thread. My best friend is a former tough guy/weightlifter/bouncer/bodyguard. He suffered a back injury on the job a few years ago and other than some power walking and low weight-high rep weightlifting cannot train and has gained weight. He goes about 275. He has always had terrible eating habits. He binges on large amounts of junk food so I gave him a bottle of fiber capsules (basically it is Metamucil in capsules) and told him to take 3 or 4 with his meals. He found that when he copped a duece it went smoother, he felt better, and he felt like he was trimming down a bit, so like the goof that he is, he started to take handfuls at a time. Let's just end this by saying that he had an urgent fiber related experience at a Home Depot where he literally had to run away from a sales associate while the guy was trying to direct him to the bathroom. Of course I told everyone the story, so everyone who sees him or e-mails him always asks if he is getting enough fiber.
A few capslues are good to take in moderation if you eat a lot of fast food and your eating habits do not include fruit, vegetables or whole grains-even if you do not have a weight problem. It is not a drug, but a natural product. The generic fiber capsules from any major drug store are just as effective as the Metamucil capsules. Again, moderation is the key, as a lot of women with eating disorders abuse these products.

My issue was that I went through some stress full times and gained a bunch of weight. I lost most of it but found my stomach to still be very large. You could see my abs but my gut would still stick out even after I starved myself for two days. It just stuck out there. The VA, of course was no help. But the fiber tablets did the job. With a regular cleansing of my intestines and such- I'm much trimmer. Next step powerwash my insides- anyone know what thats called. i heard the average person can drop like 15 lbs but that it invites desease in your colon. 15 lbs BABY! Sign me up.
Whats funny though is that I've put on almost as much muscle as fat that I have lost. So I'm still aorund the same weight. 280-290. I don't look it though. Average person thinks I'm 230. rant rave rant rave- I'm going to shut up now.

The colonoscaphy (sp) lol may cause drastic weight lose. In really bad cases it can make you drop up to 10-15 lbs....but for people already eating correctly and in good shape you will only drop about 1-4 lbs. Roughly double your avg. movement. That is what I found when I tried to cheat at cutting weight for a fight.

What kind of chow have you been eating? I want ot know so I can avoid it.;) My stomach is big enough already.
Thanks for bringing this up jegray and duran for adding to it. I have a terrible problem with this. I have come to the conclusion that I simply have a sluggish digestive system. It can't be my diet. I hate those fiber drinks, so I have resorted to eating lots of oatmeal. I like oatmeal, but I have become so bored with eating it every single day that I've been slipping up lately. I will be buying some sort of fiber tablet/capsules TOMORROW.
This is what I have eaten so far today: Raw baby carrots and celery sticks; banana; cheese curds; spinach salad with tomatoes, and unsalted roasted sunflower seeds; 2 pieces of whole wheat bread; soy milk; orange juice; soy burger patty with cheese slice, grapes. Usually I have a large glass of milk in the evening. I was going to MAKE myself eat some oatmeal tonight, but we will see.
^^^Does that sound like a bad diet? I rarely eat fast food or junk food.
About a month ago I went to a conference and then spent the weekend visiting parents, siblings, etc, and I felt terrible by the time I got home. My Mom was the only one who had any fresh fruit or vegies and she admitted she bought it because I was coming to visit. It took me about a week to get myself straightened out again.

Boo-That is a VERY healthy diet. Depending on how much strength training you do, you might want to add a tad more protein. You will feel the need to eat more protein (craving for a beef or chicken) if you are deficient.
You are getting plenty of fiber with the above diet and probably do not need the fiber capsules. A diet high or with sufficient fiber needs more water than normal to be effective. The fiber swells up from the water, creating a fullness feeling and allows everything to pass through your system smoother and easier. After reading your post the first thing that came to mind was I wondered if you are drinking enough water.
If you ever binge on cakes, cookies and other baked goods, or eat greasy burgers, brats, and hot dogs like I do at picnics and parties, then take a few fiber capsules with that stuff, as I have read where some of the fat calories do not even get absorbed because they get "wrapped up" or "swept away" (not the medical terms of course) with the fiber on it's way through your system. As you can guess though, this becomes a slippery slope for some on the way to an eating disorder in that they ingest excessive and unhealthy dosages of Metamucil-like products with every meal thinking that all the calories will be "swept away". The problem is it "sweeps away" a lot of nutrients as well as the "good" bacteria that your system needs and throws your system in disorder.

Wow! Boo, if I were you....I would have half starved to death. Yes it is a healthy diet, you have nothing to worry bout there. :D
Do you eat huge portions? Cause I could not even imagine trying to live off just the things you listed alone....

Boo, even though you have a very very healthy diet, any diet that is that rich in fiber heavy fruits and vegetables will tend to produce more gas in your system. That can manifest itself a few different ways and one of them is bloating. A little uncomfortable but the upside surely beats the down.
Thanks for all the feedback guys. :)

You are right about the gas/bloating thing, but what is strange is that I don't have that problem. The only thing I can think of is that my body has adjusted over the years. My problem is staying regular, ie constipation to be blunt.

No Easye, the portions aren't huge. My metabolism has always been slow (unlike my entire family). I think it's just a difference between people. I'm not at all hungry. Lately I've been keeping a food diary that has the food pyramid laid out and I record how many servings I've had in each area. I absolutely can not eat enough in each area every day. So if I'm short on grains one day, I try to eat the required amount of grains the next day and short myself in another area, etc.
You are built a lot like my brother. Growing up I was amazed by how much he ate. However, it caught up with him in his late 30s when his metabolism slowed down. He started gaining weight for the first time.

Duran you identified the area that I have the most difficulty with....protein. I have to make a point of making sure I get enough. I'm not depriving myself, it's a matter of preference.
More water, now that is a thought. I do drink quite a bit, but maybe not enough for the diet I have. I will double up my intake and see if that helps. One thing that doesn't add up though is why does the oatmeal work to keep me regular, if it's a water problem? Any thoughts.
I can tell you exactly when the last time was that I ate a lot of greasy food. I was on a trip last August, I was starving, and the only place to eat was this place that everything was deep fried. I was so hungry I ate it anyway. I felt downright sick from it. The next day it still felt like I had this greasy mass just sitting in my stomach going no where. Believe me, fiber capsules will be included in my luggage from now on.
I have been told by a couple of long time vegetarians that if you don't eat meat or greasy foods for years your gall bladder can't handle it anymore and that is what makes you feel so sick. I don't know if that is true for sure, but I do know that greasy food makes me feel dramatically bad.
P.S. Never eat at a place called "the Flying Weenie" <--I'm not joking

That place is to fast food joints what "The Ho Bag" is to fighter's nicknames.
btw, can't explain the oatmeal thing, but def. keep eating it.

Actually I was referring to drug store brand fiber CAPSULES, but I have since tried the ones from the second link you posted. I started my buddy on fiber capsules, and then he bought these and did like them. They are GIANT chewable tablets that taste chalky, but if you are training or on a diet and you are a person like me who needs something a little sweet after each meal, these are the __it, so to speak... You can make believe they are a piece of candy after your meal. Again, they are chalky- like a Tums antacid.
btw, what kind of guy would look for fiber capsules on ebay??? :)

I suppose if they don't expire and you buy like a crate of them, ebay wouldn't be so bad... but I'd read the warning label before I eat that many of the things. We had a guy rupture an intestine at work cause he was stopped up for a few days and his wife gave his too many. His gut just went pop!

Are you serious? A ruptured intestine is pretty serious, especially if not dealt with immediately.

I would she was too...maybe crushing them up in his food or something. Cause 2 pills, the serving sugestion, is only 6% of your daily recommended amount of fiber.....he must have been eating 5+ at each meal. lol

here's another tip... I've been eating two to three apples a day (fiber) and trying to steer away from meat. Its doing a great job to. Its not the fat on my abs that was causing me stress but the buildup in my stomach, intestines and other cavities in my body. yuck. A good flush everyday and everything seems to work better. Yeah I'm much slimmer now. Although when I started this thread I was 285 now I'm like 255-260. Fiber didn't help lose the fat but it did help me ****. Before them I was lucky to **** once a day. Now I'm averaging 3-4 times a day.

This makes me think of that episode of "Jacka$$) where Johnny Knoxville played "Santa Colonic" and got a bowel cleansing colonic in some roadside colonic place.
