View Full Version : Site slowness and lock ups

brvheart

Just and FYI...

You might have been seeing some slow downs and lock ups with the site, I have been working with our host to try to pin point the issue and resolve it. Please be patient while we are working through this. I know that it has been going on for a long time, but our host thinks that they have it figured out :) so we should see it clearing up.

Thanks for you patience and sorry for the inconvenience and frustration that it has caused.

I am getting a pretty slow response. Especially if I compare it to other sites. Also have occasional lock ups. Eventually the site will respond, but I go do something else in the meantime cause it takes awhile.

Oh yeah also, I get the same thing on dial up and high speed cable. No difference in response time, and there definitely should be.

thank you, I have been saying for a longtime that it is not just me seeing it and that compared to other sites....it is slow. My host and I are trying to work through it.

There's a notable pause for me when refreshing or clicking on a sub forum... but I just thought it was because I'm D/L a lot of Torrents !!

FIrst thing I noticed when I joined was that it is a little slow compared to other forums. It's not ridiculously slow but it is pretty slow. It's the kind of slow that makes you say aloud "come on....what the -? Oh here we go"

No need to reply, just an FYI.

BTW, I know you are working on it, I'm just giving you feedback in case you might think it's fixed.

:attention: I know durring the day from about 930est to 330 est we do have some bandwith issues, This will get resloved. Someone sent me a aim about slowness tonight , However I don't see it from my home on rr. There should not be any more db errs. If anyone gets one please post it here.

PDX->SEA

I get a "delay" -then it pops up.
Slow, but bearable.

brvheart
11-05-2006, 08:14 PM
ok all,

Until these issues get worked out (either waiting for our host to fix it or find a new host if nothing can be done by our current one - he is working on it), the shoutbox and welcome panel both add to the slowness....so here is the choice:

Do away with those two items until the resolution comes, or deal with the slowness until the resolution comes and keep those two items.

Now the site is still slow and locks up with those two items being gone, but it will take some of the slowness away....so what do you guys want to do? It is up to you, I will do what you guys would like all you have to do is let me know, majority wins on this, it is the only fair way.

So speak now or forever hold you peace :D

OK, my vote (and Storms too, I guess :) ) is for dealing with the slowness and keeping the features. Now I'm assuming by that, it isn't going to take 6 months to speed ur up.

Thanks for the update. It seems to be slower for me after 5:00 PM. I have dial up. Is that because of higher traffic?

macman
11-06-2006, 08:49 AM
On dial up im sure you will see some slowness due to all the larger than noraml
images people post. But no you should not see any slower then naormal now due to bw issues on this side, We have that fixed. I hope now that more people will chime in and report what there seeing, The site for me loads fast from home all the time.

Yeah, they do need to chime in. Otherwise, it would be hard for you to evaluate problems if you aren't having them.

I'm curious to see how much better the cable hookup at work is doing now that you've fixed some problems. We will see today.

Thanks

The host is going move the site to a different server to see if that helps, after that is done we all need to chime back in and see if that solves any issues.

Well this week my background is dark and I can't get the old light theme back. Also in firefox it shows up way to large and I have to use the horizontal scrollbar to see everything including paging controls. I haven't changed anything- it just popped up like this one day.

Real slow. Just got my new internet and it's 7mbs down, aside from the fact that you're not that far from me. Over the last two weeks or so it's been slow for me, home today and at work.

You should do a traceroute to your server brv, see if it's not your server but some relay station inbetween you and the server.

It happened to me, mark , captain america and lilp while we were playing poker and took minutes before we could even get back in there. It just wouldn't load or almost get there and then give you the boot.

edit: They all said it did the exact same thing to them so it wasn't just me.

The site was running slow for me as well the other day. I mean really slow. I freaked out thinking my computer had one of those nasty new viruses so I did every scan i could, ran ccleaner, disk clean up, disk defrag and then I realized that it may not be my computer. I check other sites and it was running fine there. I almost had a heart attack thinking my computer was all messed up. luckily, it wasn't.

I wish I could see anything slow, I am at home on rr and I can't see any page that loads in more than 1 second,
All i see is google ads taking longer than the site to load. I don't even see the db issue we seen a few months ago, But I know its still there because I do see it at times during the day, it is the quick reply sql statements that cause it, I don't know why it comes and goes, But unless you changed something last night I don't see it right now. If others are reading this post please let me know how the site has been for you the last three months. Chris, Please come to my house or my work so you can show me what it is your seeing, I cant see anything bad with how this site is preforming. a 1 second page load on every page is all I see. I can pull up the db server wile were testing and show you that when/if we do see anything it is that one code doing it.

---------- Post added at 06:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:40 AM ----------

Also, I have clicked on almost every new post trying to make this happen, every page one second.
Please let me know if you changed something last night. So far all i see is a site that loads faster then the goolge adds, from my view that is a impressive site, For a db driven site it's un heard of to be this fast.

---------- Post added at 07:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:48 AM ----------

I spoke to soon, Just seen a three second page load, And it was the quick reply that loads last and i seen it in the db server.

prophet665
01-14-2010, 08:34 AM
For the last 6 months or so this site loads slow for me. Sometimes it is just noticeable and other times it is disruptive.

A good example is I double posted the other day because the site would not reload after i hit the "Submit Reply" button. After a few minutes on other tabs, I came back to this tab, pressed the Stop button, and hit "Submit Reply" again. It still didn't reload. I figured I would just come back later and post. I then read the thread later and there was the double post.

I know it isn't my connection because I can load this site and 9 other graphics heavy sites at the same time and every single time this site is the last to load.

macman
01-14-2010, 08:43 AM
Thanks for the reply, It is very odd it would be the last site to load, I will post some things to try and duplicate this, I have been looking for months now and for me at home or here in the server room I can't make it load slow, The one quick reply code I know can cause a what looks like a slow down but its the sql doing a copy to trmp table, What is odd is it comes and goes for no reason I can find.
I hope others will chime in and tell me what they see. Thanks again.

brvheart
01-14-2010, 09:20 AM
# 1 - it is not quick reply, that has been on since day one and does not change.
# 2 - Quick reply is only in play when viewing a new post and replying. The slowness is every freaking where - homepage, whos online, new post, calendar the list goes on and on.
# 3 - Quick Reply is a javascript loading nothing to do with server load
# 4 - NOTHING HAS CHANGED, the site all of a sudden goes in to these periods of things running slow which is usually (at least in my field) caused by an upgrade to a server etc that conflicts and was not tested in a test environment before moved to production.
