Hello. My name is duran and I have an MMA problem. My wife keeps divebombing me in the computer room as she thinks I am spending all this time on porn sites, but, loser that I am, she only catches me on mixed martial arts forums. She just leaves the room shaking her head. She had fair warning in all of this. Our first date in the 80's was going to a friend's house who had HBO and we watched the Boom Boom Mancini-Bobby Chacon fight. I brought the pizza.

I am a former HS and college wrestler and still train in a boxing gym. I am holding out hope that they will have a real "TUF-The Comeback" and have a show for real old wannabes like me.

I was referred to this site by Boo, so please don't hold that against me.

One more thing. Rachelle Leah digs me. I can tell by the way she looks at me from my TV set.

Well I thought I would do what the title of this thread says and stop in and introduce myself. My name is Jordan, I'm 25, Married, From the Midwest and addicted to MMA. I have always had a passion for the sport, and the more and more I watch it, the more and more I realize that just watching it will no longer suffice. I need to find a gym or somewhere I can train. I dont have any previous experience in the MMA world but I realize that now is better than never. Can anyone help me find a gym in my location. (Des Moines, IA.) I would really appreciate the help.

Hey there Jordan. There are several Iowans on the forum regularly, including myself.

Below are a couple of places to train in the Des Moines area. There are some teams in the area that are more informal too, but if you are starting from scratch, formal training is probably the way to go.

If you are interested in a particular martial art and not necessarily mma, then the the yellow pages should give you a ton of choices.

Man- I missed this ages ago huh? lol well if he looks again soon I wouldn't know what to tell him. If he wants jiu jitsu he can go to the Des Moines Jiu Jitsu Academy- thats the best place really. If you're poor though you can always come train with me and my crew. Not that we are less- we just don't have the fancy facility or the fancy-pants bottled water machine and merchandise.

lol- humor... I like that.

I'm new here too... I have been addicted to MMA since I was a kid. Back then we used to call it pit fighting or bare knuckle, no holds barred, ect. I have been a recovering MMA-aholic for over 18 years. Everyday isn't easy but I take it one day at a time.

Good day folks.

I've been lurking, figured I should register.

I'm an avid MMA fan from (don't laugh)... North Dakota. Surprisingly the MMA scene here is quite large. I teach and train in Shotokan Karate and have been doing so since I was a kid. The last 3 years or so I've been training at a local gym where I teach a Shotokan-style stand up game. (Think the UFC's Lyoto Machida) I also have been working feverishly on my ground game. I seem to think I'm a force to be reckoned with on the mat, (some might disagree...) but I have no interest in competing. I prefer to coach and corner. Training is a great way to stay in shape and it's better than doing drugs or something else stupid so I'm sure this will be my hobby for years to come.

See you in the gym...

Whats up everyone. I'm from the cleveland/akron area of ohio. I train at a BJJ school (i do mostly no-gi/mma), but we have a badass kickboxing coach and our name is jungle fight team. No fights yet, but i'm trying to schedule one this summer. This looks like a good forum, mostly because the rules set in place don't allow people to be asses to each other. I'm glad I joined.

what's up I am new to this site and just wanna drop in. I came by referal of Brutus that this is a cool site and so far it definitely seems to be. I don't train, the most I've done is submission wrestling here and there with my buddies. At least sum of those people were "Brutes" such as Brutus, who actually have some moves to be worried about. I never miss a ufc PPV, even if the card is kinda garbage. lately Brutus' Garage has been our spot to watch even though last time was a tid bit nipply outside. oh plus we've been hitting the heavy bag lately so all fools better watch out!

Ohio must be pretty hopping for MMA considering how many I see on the forums and how well the UFCs are doing there. It's been awhile, but I seem to remember that they really have their act together with amateur events there too. I used to listen to a ton of mma podcasts and would hear updates about what they were doing in the State. In particular was the effort being made to properly training referees and judges. I wonder how that worked out. Any insight on that?

Ive practiced Karatedo upto a brown belt when I was in Highschool. I was pretty good at it too. Lol. I had to stop because we left the city we were in. Too bad. And just 2 Years ago I went to some Akido and BJJ classes around 5 - 10 classes. But I also have to stop that. Because I had to many schooling to do. Sucks really. I'd want to get back someday. haha. :)

Well, since Ontario covers over 1 Million square Kilometers, you'll have to narrow it down a bit.

You could possibly be:

1) A couple hours from Minneapolis, MN.

2) Within a stone's throw of Detroit, MI.

3) Within walking distance from Buffalo, NY.

4) Or so far North in the boonies that all hope is lost...

You have a good chance of being very close to some high quality MMA.
