I now have to add Mission Impossible after seeing the third one. I would bet this does not stay a trilogy though....even if Tom Cruise is not going to be in them any more.

Austin Powers.......................yeah baby yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 This is too funny. I haven't looked in this thread cause I figured MIVE was another one of those computer games or something that I didn't have a clue about.
I finally thought, there are 8 posts, maybe I can learn something and figure out what a MIVE is
Anyway....Lord of the Rings is my pick. Probably because I already loved the books so much.

I have to add the Bourne series to this, that set of movies is plain awesome!!

04-12-2008, 07:10 PM
^I saw the first one in that series, yet to see the next two and I always mix up the names lol. I think the one I saw was the Bourne Identity. I think I've read some of the books for that one
anyways my favorites are LOTR and the original Star Wars, I didn't like the prequels for Star Wars at all. G mentioned the Godfather and the first two movies of that series were great but the third one didn't have the same feel so Im gunna leave that series out. For it to be my favorite Triology every movie had to be great in it.
BTW my favorite movies out of LOTR and Star Wars triologies were "The Empire Strikes Back" and Fellowship, what about you guys?

I really enjoyed The Matrix trilogy, and I thought that each of them added to the story and that none of them was leaps and bounds better than any of the others.
I would count The Godfather, but 3 was really just horrible. Alien had a quadrilogy, but the first three were very good in my opinion. Alien was a bit slow, but it really defined sci-fi movies. The same is true of Die Hard in that it was a quadrilogy but that three were good (I thought that 1, 2 and 4 were very good), and Superman had four or five but only three of them were worth anything. Honestly, Terminator was a very solid trilogy. I've always thought that of any movie that dealt with time travel, Terminator did it the best with the fewest inconsistencies. And, to the best of my knowledge, it is the third highest grossing trilogy (LOtR is first and the new Star Wars is second). So it really does deserve mention.
When it comes down to it I'd have to say LOtR was easily the best planned trilogy, but a lot of that probably has to do with the fact that all three were filmed before any one of them had been released, and none of the other ones were PLANNED trilogies. In our lifetime the only planned trilogies that I know of were LOtR, X-Men (all principle cast were signed to three movies eventhough they didn't know if three were being made), and the final 3 Star Wars movies. The original Star Wars was a stand-alone because Fox didn't know if it would make any money, and the same is true for The Matrix with New Line Cinema (Viacom) and Pirates with Disney (Hollywood Pictures). The Matrix and Pirates filmed their number two and three movies together because the first one made so much. So, in essence, Star Wars I, II, III and the LOtR were the only planned trilogies, and that's amazing for LOtR (since Star Wars had 3 movies preceeding). If, for nothing else, that's reason enough to love them: because they were SO good and it was such a huge risk for New Line. Not even Indiana Jones or Rocky can say that, and those had 4-6 movies in them (but no three were planned together).
The original Star Trek movies (if you don't count The Motion Picture, because that was horrible and nobody counts it as the first Star Trek) were incredible in my opinion. IV was a little iffy, but that's because it was kinda preachy and weird with the time travel theme.
So yeah, LOtR for all-time favorite, but the original Star Wars trilogy, the original Alien trilogy, II-IV on Star Trek, Terminator, and the Matrix are in the running for the next spots.

Yeah the only thing that sucks about the new Terminator is that it's directed by McG. I've never been a fan of his stuff. Christian Bale should make a great John Connor as an adult, though.

^Bourne isn't going to be a trilogy much longer. They already have the 4th one in the works. Its due out in 2010, and obviously won't be based on any of the books, since Ludlum is dead and Eric Van Lustbader's version sucks. The good news is that Greengrass will continue to direct, and Damon will star in it.
I'm surprised so many people have the Matrix trilogy. I thought the 2nd and 3rd movies were horrible. The first one was great though.

I think we have the only person in th world besides Lucas that likes Star Wars 1-3. Emo Vader didn't do it for me and I am a HUGE Star Wars fan and major geek.
Star Wars 4-6
HellRaiser 1-3
Nightmare On Elm Street 1,3,7 (since we seem to moved beyond trilogies and in to series)
LotR
The Bourne Movies (the books were awesome also, totally different, but awesome)
Macross/Robotech series

Just a FYI 4-6 of Starwars is the original released with Luke, Vader etc - 1-3 was the follow up showing how they got to the 70's classics. I am sure that you know that but just wanted to check ;)
1-3 = Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith
4-6 = New Hope, Empire Stirkes Back and Return of the Jedi

I was aware of that fact. To show you how deep I am, I play the Star Wars role playing game (kind of like Dungeons And Dragons except in the Star Wars universe). I am a geek, a nerd, and a propeller head.
It is a wonder I got married.

In Revenge Of The Sith, Anakin was running around acting all dark and brooding like a Emo Kid. The "Noooooo" scream at the end reminded me of the end of the play "The Monkey's Paw". They should have replaced it with a Wilhelm Scream.
In the original trilogy, Dark Vader was a butt kicking, force choking, general intimidating Sith.

I'm sorry...you lost me somewhere around " i've never seen any of the star wars movies".
Has this been a conscious decision or just a situation of bad timing and never getting around to seeing the movies?
Basically, he asked me if I knew that the first three movies made where actually parts 4, 5, and 6 of the series (made in 1977, 1980, and 1983) and that George Lucas made the prequel trilogy (1, 2, and 3 - unaffectionately known as the Unholy Trilogy That Crushed My Childhood Sense Of All That Is Good and Right With The Universe) made in 1999, 2002, and 2005.
The geek, nerd, and propellar head comment is just to let everyone know that yes, we do in fact know we are strange and weird and we are not ashamed to hide it. A propellar head is just another term for a geek. In old cartoons they use to denote the "smart, awkward guy" as having a beanie hat with a propellar on top of it.

Alright well I thought that may have been the case w/ the propeller head thing. The first thing i envisioned was the old time comics. Got it, thank you for clarifying.
As for not seeing any of the Star Wars movies all I can say is that they don't necessarily spark any interest for me. For some reason I just haven't been into them or the planets and moons haven't alligned properly allowing me to catch one of them even on cable. i do think that I may catch the first one that you say was made in '77. that seems like the logical place to start. Everyone I share this with (the fact that I haven't seen any of the SW movies) is usually semi-offended or shocked making me feel out of place a bit. I think I'll head to blockbuster tomorrow and pick up the first one. What is the official title of the first Star Wars Movie? heck, maybe you guys have just created another "propeller head" :)

I can smacked now - I just re-read your first post about this, when I first read it all I saw was Star Wars and below it was 1-3 for hellraiser, I totally missed that it actually said Star Wars 4-6 which made me miss take the Vader comments. I apologize for that Prophet - deceive me my eye did (in my best Yoda voice)

That is like a 13 hour commitment to watch all three in a row and they still left out probably 40% of the books, easy.
Friday made me laugh so hard I cried. The next two sequels just made me cry. Why Ice Cube, why?

I have participated in watching all three and you are correct, it is an all day event...you basically have to plan on sitting on your *** all day! But they are good, and I haven't read the books, but my fiance is a huge fan and we have all the books, including the Tolkien Reader, The Hobbit (which I have read and want the movie to be made!), The Silmarillion and the untold ones that his son put together...he's a big fan and been reading them his whole life! The only way I was introduced to them actually other than watching the animated Hobbit movie as a kid.

Same here. If you talk to a LotR nerd, they will blow their stack if you mention the animated movie.
The animation style reminds me of Wizards (which doesn't make a ton of sense unless you are REALLY stoned) and Heavy Metal. I love the Heavy Metal movie so much even though there was only 2 or 3 true metal songs. They played The Mob Rules for all of 30 seconds in the movie. Go figure...
