OK I have been here for a bit but I don't post much because ther whole place is spread out way too much. I can't stand that I have to go to another part of this place to talk about a proelite fight then have to go switching bunch to talk UFC next if this place wasn't so compartmentalized I Would be more of a regular poster here but it isn't gonna happen with the way it is layed out right now way to user Unfriendly. It sucks because all the guys I like talking to from MMANews go here and it seems like the ones that actually have a brain post to here now. But again it is just to tiersome to weed though this place. Can we simplify it...PLEASE!!!

whats up ubermensch

the way I like to do it, is to click the "new posts" up on the MMAworld menu. It leads you to all the posts that have been updated recently. Hope that helps you out, this place is setup alot differently then mmanews so it takes awhile to get used to, its grown on me now though. Hope you stick around

I think he was talking more about posting. Like if he wants to post news about someone, you do have to go through the hierarchy. Maybe a dropdown list as to where you would like to post. That shouldn't be too hard to implement and may help.

I agree with Uber about having too many sections and different sections for different orgs, not my cup of tea, I'd rather all mma was in the same place. Not that big a deal either way though I guess.

well....here is the thing....

I built it the way it is so that search indexs for one would have a easy time indexing, also the built in search on the site has a easier time when it is organized.

So if we had a big number of people and I did not have to worry about indexing etc we could do some major moving....

oh heck, now I want you all to stay around so let us see what we can come up with ;)

PS would a drop down list in the navbar for all the various sections work for you? I have thought of doing that many times. like a forum jump menu?

Yeah this place is way to organized. I do wish it was just one section for MMA. But it does not bother me all that much bc like neo I just hit the new posts button.

That sounds a good idea.

Personally I like the way it's set up now. It's easy to find threads that you are looking for in particular organizations. When its all grouped together as one it seems tougher to find threads because they get knocked back to the 2nd or 3rd page quicker. I do think we could do without some of the other sub forums, but I like the organizational set up.

I'm sure you know this, but there is a forum jump in the threads, just not the main page. I tell you this so you can just cut and copy the code to the main page, wherever you would like it (like where it says "Welcome, [your name] br x Unread Posts...")

And if not that, then on the front page you could just make a collapsable thread window for those who want it:

MMA
-UFC
--TUF
-WEC
-EliteXC
...etc

The first idea is probably better, but I don't know how the others use the site. I'm like the other guys and live and die by the Unread posts. Even on other forums I previously visited, I only visited the unread posts and my User CP to see if anyone had replied to a post I had started or replied in.

yes I already knew that ;) lol

That's pretty much how I use this site too. I'm not sure if it would work as well if we had 5x as many regular posters.

I welcome the new posters. It gets to me when everyone starts agreeing, or when they don't agree but they agree to disagree. I need drama!

Ok, that's not entirely true, but I don't see what the difference is between having 20 unread posts with 5 that I actually want to read, and having 200 unread posts with 25 that I actually want to read. There's events I can't or don't want to see, fighters I don't care about, news I've already read or don't care about, etc...

That's just me and I'm weird. I honestly don't know how you guys ever talked before I came along. I'm not vane or anything, this is just how the world is in my head. In my head, it kind of goes like this:

brv: I would like to make a theme that has blue as the main color. What do you think?
RCLH: *grumble, mumble, angry, funny*
Easy: You just need a group hug RCLH
RCLH: I'm not **** gay *** **** ****** you can ***** yourself
Welsh: My soccer team is doing well
Boo: I like blue.
brv: Blue it is

Don't know how you guys made it without me.

enough drama for you?

LOL.

I like the format, especially the ability to change styles. In the words of me 30 years ago ..... thats neato.

If the site had 184 trillion members, it might be cumbersome. But sites like that already exist, and there is a direct correlation between exponential population increase, and forums going right into the sh*tter.

So I say keep it the way Boo told you to in the first place!

valheruking

I don't know how people keep up with Sherdog size forums, must be pretty hard to bond with people too when theres thousands of different posters.

Yea, this would probably be my first suggestion.

Until the forum grows bigger and I would keep it as simple as possible.

It just seems to busy to me.

Too many categories.

I honestly think that by simplifying the layout it would become a much more active forum.

brvheart
08-12-2008, 08:49 PM
have a look at the our members thread....I have started to move the not so active forums to buttons at the top and hiding them from plain view to help simplify the site ;)

The Sundance Kid

It's just kinda overwhelming IMO.

****, I just made like 6 post and I'm having to search to remember where I posted them at.

IMO, I would do a General MMA Section; an Off Topic Section; a Video Section; and a few others and that's about it.

I mean you have TWELVE different forums that haven't been posted in, in at least a month.

IMO it just clogging up the site.

There are things that should be combined, and their are things that should be cut out all together until it is needed.

But take this with a grain of salt, it's just my opinion, and if this were my site and someone that I had no idea of who they were came on and told me how I should run MY site, I'd probably tell them to STFU and go to ****.lol

Just suggestions.

that is where I differ, I am a owner for the members and enjoy feedback and making the site what the majority wants. Sure you cant please everyone but I sure can try to please the most I can it is why I built this place....

both dark style and Ice changes made, widget up top, video, training sections both hidden but accessible through the top buttons. Hopefully this will take out some of the clutter.

You have to be using the MMAWorld dark or Ice style. Each style has to be changed individually.

and those are the only available that are update, I took the UFC Widget out altogether....
