British mixed martial arts fans rejoice, as World Extreme Cagefighting has its eyes set on the UK. The news was first reported by Fighters Only magazine and later confirmed by UFC UK president Marshall Zelaznik.
"The WEC will come to the UK, first on TV screens, and when the time is right, we'll run live WEC events in the UK," Zelaznik said.
A sister promotion to the UFC, the WEC has enjoyed an exponential growth in popularity since it was purchased by Zuffa LLC. The WEC has become a haven for many of the world's top lighter weight fighters, including featherweight champion Urijah Faber and bantamweight titleholder Miguel Torres.
The WEC will likely target smaller cities throughout the UK, as well as arenas that cannot support crowds for a full UFC event.
