Spencer Fisher vs. Dan Lauzon

The first thirty seconds of this fight was nothing but static for me as I am sure it was for everyone else. I think the UFC was having major camera
problems and they just went out at the beginning of the fight. Dan Lauzon
took down Fisher and used good ground and pound for the bets part of the first round. Fisher landed a nice up kick that rocked Lauzon early on.
Every time the fight was stood up Fisher made the most of it and was finally able to take advantage of it and put Lauzon away with a flurry that started with a big flying knee.

Winner: Spencer Fisher by TKO at 4:38 of round 1

Cheick Kongo vs. Carmelo Marrero

1st round - Cheick lands some leg kicks, but this round stayed on the ground as Marrero took him down again and again. Carmelo landed knees to the body, elbows, and then punches to Kongo who was pushed up against the fence.

2nd round - Starts off the same way, with Kongo leg kicks and then a Marrero takedown. Pretty much the same as round one in that Marrero dominated the fight here and kept it on the ground.

3rd round - Marrero takes down Cheick after some work up against the fence by Kongo. They are stood up as they had been several times before in this fight. Marrero took Kongo down at will and at the end of this round, I had Carmelo winning all three rounds. The judges did not agree with me.

Winner: Carmelo Marrero by split decision

Jon Fitch vs. Kuniyoshi Hironaka

1st round - They come out striking and then clinch against the fence before Fitch gets a big takedown and then starts some ground and pound. Hironaka locks in a decent triangle, but can't put Fitch away in the minute and a half he was attempting it. Fitch gets out and ground and pounds his way to the end of the round.

2nd round - Fitch comes out firing away and gets another big takedown, then starts more ground and pound. There were some good sweeps in the second round and a big head kick that landed by Fitch.

3rd round - Fitch comes out kicking and lands some good shots that are met with some stiff jabs from Hironaka. Fitch gets a takedown and gets cut badly from a punch on the way in. Ground and pound by Fitch who lands some hard shots and elbows. They are stood up and Fitch takes it back to the ground with some nice elbows again until the round ends.

Winner: Jon Fitch by Unanimous decision

Sean Sherk vs. Kenny Florian

This one was a war.

1st round - Sherk gets the takedown, but Florian reverses only for Sean to get back on top in 1/2 guard. Sherk starts his trademark ground and pound.
Florian attempts a guillotine that Sean manages to get out of. Sherk finishes the round with ground and pound.

2nd round - Florian lands a nice body kick and lets his legs fly. Sherk scores the takedown and then gets cut badly by a nice elbow from Kenny. They check the cut and then the doctor cleans blood out of KenFlo's eyes. Sherk starts hammering with the ground and pound again, but Kenny is defending nicely.

3rd round - Kenny kicks to start things off and lands, but just like before Sherk takes down Florian and ground and pounds. Kenny continually tries to get up, but Sherk is overpowering him. They are stood up again and Kenny lands another good kick. They exchange on their feet as the round ends.

4th round - Kenny kicking yet again and avoids the takedown attempt, but gets taken down shortly after that. Kenny tries to get up, but can't and gets hammered a little by Sean's ground and pound. They are stood up and the legs of Florian fly which excites the crowd.

5th round - Same as before with the kicks and takedown. Ground and pound by Sean and Kenny almost secures an arm bar. More ground and pound, but the action stales so the fight is stood up. Florian kicks and after he gets taken down sinks in a decent guillotine, but Sean escapes. Sherk gets the full mount, but Kenny reverses only to meet more Ground and pound from Sean.

Winner and new lightweight champion: Sean Sherk by unanimous decision

Rich Franklin vs. Anderson Silva

1st round - They feel each other out for about a minute. Anderson is taller and has the reach advantage over Rich and it is giving him trouble. They exchange some punches and then Silva locks in his extremely powerful clinch.
They grapple for position then Silva starts landing some good knees to Franklin's body and then to the head. Rich is badly rocked and Silva follows up with more knees eventually breaking Rich's nose and sending him to the canvas.

Winner and new middleweight champion: Anderson Silva

Throughout the night they paid tribute to Ken Shamrock in some very respectful and classy montages. It was a fitting way to send a hall of famer out of the Octagon and back in to retirement where says he will stay.....only time will tell if he really does. Great night of fights for the UFC.
