"…The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit” (James 5:16-18)
Elijah did not stop the rain nor did he start it again for the crops to grow and orchards to produce fruit. Only God has the power to do the miraculous. God answered Elijah’s fervent prayer and in doing so communicated to the world that He was in control and that Elijah served the Most High God.
The same holds true today. It is only through prayer that we have the greatest opportunity to make a significant impact on our world.
