- WEC 36 FABER VS. BROWN WEIGH-IN RESULTS
Tuesday, November 04, 2008 - by MMAWeekly.com LIVE

MMAWeekly.com was in Hollywood, Fla., for the WEC 36 weigh-ins where many fighters had trouble making weight including Paulo Filho and Mike Brown.

Paul Filho stepped on the scales at 192.5 pounds before weighing in at 192 without shorts for his title bout and rematch with Chael Sonnen. Filho has two hours to cut seven pounds. It is a title match so Filho has to weigh 185 exactly.

Mike Brown stepped weighed 146 before stripping down to weigh-in at 145.5. He has two hours to cut the half pound.

WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber heads the card, making his latest title defense against American Top Team fighter Mike Brown. Paulo Filho, the promotion's middleweight king, also defends his title by facing Chael Sonnen in a rematch of their bout from earlier this year.

One of the most anticipated bouts on the card features former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver against Leonard Garcia as the two try to narrow down the contenders for a featherweight title shot.

Rani Yahya tipped the scales at 137 pounds but his opponent Yoshiro Maeda agreed to the fight so Yahya didn't have to cut the additional pound.

Main Card Bouts:
-Urijah Faber (144.5) vs. Mike Brown (1455)
-Paulo Filho (192) vs. Chael Sonnen (184.5)
-Jens Pulver (146) vs. Leonard Garcia (145.5)
-Jake Rosholt (185.5) vs. Nissen Osterneck (184.5)

Preliminary Bouts:
-Rob McCullough (155.5) vs. Donald Cerrone (156)
-David Avellan (185) vs. Aaron Simpson (184.5)
-Jose Aldo (146) vs. Jonathan Brookins (146)
-Carmelo Marrero (206) vs. Steve Steinbeiss (202)
-Danny Castillo (156) vs. Rafael Dias (155)
-Yoshiro Maeda (135) vs. Rani Yahya (137)

Hopefully Filho makes weight in his next try. It would be a crappy way for the WEC MW division to go out.

*edit* Crap, I just noticed that "Razor" Rob vs. Cowboy is now on the prelims. That was originally on the main card. That sucks. I was really looking forward to that fight. Hopefully it makes the main card. Maeda vs. Yahya too!

^both the fights you mentioned in you edit section would be candidates for the main card IMO. Cowby vs Razor will hopefully make the televised fights since they only have 4 fight on the card during the 2 hour time slot.

^Yeah it's crazy that Rob vs. Cowboy isn't on the main card. The winner is easily the next in line for the next title shot. I know they are trying to give Rosholt a push, and Osterneck is a beast, but come on. We are talking about a #1 contender fight that's not even on the main card. They should of made it a 3 hour event on Versus and just put Razor/Cowboy and Maeda/Yahya on the main card. WEC deserves a 3 hour timeslot. These fight cards they put on are sick. I'm way more pumped for WEC 36 than UFC 91.

Seven and a half pounds is a lot. Of course, Filho doesn't have to worry about getting stripped, but Sonnen basically got screwed out of a title shot... completely unfair.

Just to update. Mike Brown weighed in at 145 in his 2nd attempt, so the FW title fight is still on.

why the **** shouldn't Filho be stripped fo the title? I mean he has an obligation to uphold as the champion of the WEC MW division. I know its not all that important at this point seeing as the MW and LHW are flying over to the UFC but hell, he's still got a job to do. This really pisses me off.

I'm trying to remember the last time a champ didn't make weight for a title fight. I can think of a bunch of examples where the contender didn't make weight, but can you guys remember a champ recently not making weight?
